Our Guidance Staff is a crucial tool in creating the kind and caring weight loss camp that we are. They focus on several things:
* Building Self Confidence
* Creating a Caring Camp Shane
* Meeting individually with campers that request help.
* Meeting with campers that we identify as needing help adjusting
* Integrating our entire staff into our culture
* Holding bunk meetings to ensure everyone is getting along
* Communicating with parents |
 |
|
 |
* We know you want to stay informed. Communication is our key
* Guidance staff is always available to let you know how your child is doing
* Every ten days our staff completes an evaluation of each camper, ensuring everyone success at camp
* When your child is at Camp Shane, view the photos and newsletters created by our staff
* Once enrolled, use a password to see daily postings of camp photos and to email your camper
If there is ever a problem, our Guidance staff conducts constant one on one contact with that child. If the problem persists, then our staff will call you. You be advised of what is happening and will actively participate with us in working out a solution so the child integrates happily in our program. |

I literally grew up in camp, attending day camp at the age of 3 and overnight camp at the age of 6; of course the camps were owned and run by my parents, but I always pretended my last name was not Lustig! Camp taught me to be independent, self-sufficient, tolerant of others, and respectful of people's differences; this was the legacy I inherited from my parents, who built Camp Weequahic, and I was honored to continue their traditions when I became the director of Weequahic in 1979. Prior to my return to Weequahic, I had spent 9 years doing social work with low income families; what all of my experiences have taught me is that children are simply children, and they all have the same concerns and aspirations. Helping to ease the concerns has always been my aspiration, and I look forward to bringing my love of camping and of children to the campers of Camp Shane Arizona. I was fortunate to have wonderful parents who taught me wonderful values in a fun-filled environment; I look forward to sharing my experience with a new generation of campers at Shane Arizona. |

Garry is a Level 3 Master Trainer with The Australian Institute of Fitness. He is also a Strength and Conditioning Expert, with training from The Tudor Bompa Institute that specializes in sport conditioning and exercise science.
During the year Garry is a personal trainer in England and well educated in performance improvement and weight management, working with clients with diverse range of goals. Camp is unquestionably the single best experience and summer investment. I have the opportunity here to work with kids to reach their potential. You as a camper are going to make new bonds, meet great people, and improve your confidence and self awareness. More importantly though you are going to have fun with water balloon fights, college days, colour war and pool parties. I am going to make sure that we play some great sports from all over the world, we are going to work hard, but we are going to play hard too. I can't get enough of the camp experience and I am guessing you won't either. |

Clare has a Diploma in Fitness and Nutrition. She is qualified to teach fitness, train individuals in a weight room and give basic nutritional advice. She has studied Karate for 13 years and gained black belt 2nd Dan grade. Clare has intensive training in Kung Fu in China, kick boxing and crewe.
Not having camps in the UK where I live, I truly didn't know what to expect. But after working at Shane, it really hit home about how much we were missing! From beginning to end I thrived on the family atmosphere, fun sunny days, teamwork and enthusiasm. Working together we are able to achieve the results that the kids and counsellors where aiming for. I developed another family at camp along with my campers, creating a bond which I'm sure will be there forever.
Camp Arizona is run very similar to New York. It's my job to create a warm, friendly camp with fun activities and also challenges and encourage kids to go one step further and sometimes beyond. My aim is for the kids to focus on feeling good and being happy. Camp is a place to make new friends and experience new games, create new skills and take home fond memories! |
